Intro and Luvvie Bit.

This site is dedicated to the humorous verse of Otley poets Baz Cooper and Kev Collier.

Baz was born in Sheffield many years ago and after a tour of the country settled in Otley. He has had a variety of jobs including farm labourer, bus conductor, factory worker and teacher and is now a drug pusher, more specifically working in the pharmacy of a local hospital. He rarely performs his work nowadays but has gained a reputation as a during-dinner speaker.

Kevin hails from Burley in Leeds (which makes him difficult to hear) and moved to Otley in 1985. After a range of jobs including bookseller, bus conductor, bar cellarman and even accountant for heaven's sake, he ended up with Leeds City Council, where he started at the bottom and liked it there. He was a founder-organiser of the Otley Folk Festival, and wrote the first five years' programmes.

Baz and Kev, laughing at their own jokes in true Showbiz style

© Yorkshire Evening Post 19/1/2000.

The two first met at Otley Folk Club, where Baz was already a legend and Kev like a fool volunteered to write material for him. Kev has now assumed the performer's mantle and is much in demand sometimes. They meet regularly over a pint in the Red Lion, and sooner or later one of them is going to have to pay for it.

Thanks to Dave Vermond, Jess Stockham, Sophie Richardson, Sylvia Cravitz, Safir Ahmed, Chris Youhill, all at Otley Folk Club, and anyone who knows us, not forgetting Linda Cooper and Christine Watson, without whom, etc, etc.

Special thanks to Joe Kelley of ProperPanda.

Baz Cooper and Kevin Collier have asserted their right to be identified as the authors of these poems, if that's okay with the rest of you, and we apologise if any old jokes have been inadvertently omitted. Unauthorised performance of the material is probably strictly forbidden, but see if we care.
